Week 2 Day 1
Setting Up a Time to Meet
READ IT
Mark 1:35, Psalm 5:3
THINK ABOUT IT
The amount of time you spend with someone will determine the type of relationship you have with that person. Time is the key element to any relationship. The new relationship you have with Jesus is no different. To find fulfillment in your relationship with Jesus you MUST devote time to it.
Devoting time to your new relationship will be a battle. Everything you do requires your time. It is the one commodity you possess that everyone and everything wants from you. But ONLY YOU determine how it is used.
DWELL ON IT
So how do you set up a time to meet with Jesus? BOOK IT NOW! Take out your calendar right now. Find a time for each day and block it off. Here are some things to keep in mind about the time you set:
Be Consistent. Try to make it the same time every day. Consistency will help you maintain your commitment to the time you set. Try in the morning before the rest of your day begins. Read the verses above.
Be Early. Jesus and King David found the morning the best time to spend with God. It can be the same for you. However, for some people mornings do not work. So, find one that does. The point is to be consistent with the time.
Be On Time. Allow enough time. Make sure you set a time that will allow you to complete your appointment. You don’t leave 5 minutes before you are supposed to be somewhere if it takes 20 minutes to get there. Nor do start your favorite movie at 2:45 PM if you have to work at 3:00 PM. You always allow enough time to accomplish what you want to accomplish.
Be on Guard. Guard it! Don’t let anything interfere with your time. If you establish a consistent time NOW it will become part of your lifestyle. This will not be easy, but if you will guard your time God will use the time to make you more like his son Jesus.
PRAY ABOUT IT
REMEMBER: The amount of time you spend with someone determines the type of relationship you have with that person. The type of relationship you have with Jesus depends on the amount of time you spend with him.
Ask God to show you the importance of spending time with Him. Thank Him for giving you the opportunity to spend time with Him.
