SESSION V

Materials Needed:

PRACTICAL TRAINING (40 min.)

A. Introduction

Remind students of last minute material that they need to turn in or get before you leave.

B. Beach Reach Simulation

Review the Steps to Servant Evangelism
Tell the students in this session, they will simulate the van rides and the pancake breakfast that they will experience at Beach Reach.
They will be able to practice initiating a conversation on the vans and at the tables during the pancake breakfast.

C. Practice

Set up some chairs in your training room to simulate the seats in a 15 passenger van. Remember the rear seat will probably be removed!
Explain to students the various positions on the van. (Examples are: Door Keeper, Phone Operator, Driver, and Sharers). Use the information in the Hotline Section of the Beach Reach Leader’s Manual (This will be mailed to all leaders). Describe the responsibilities of each position. Be sure and explain the rule about no women past the second seat and why it is important.
If you have already assigned van teams that will be used at Beach Reach, divide the team in half. Let half of them be the Beach Goers who will be picked up in the simulation. The others will be Beach Reachers who share the Satisfaction Model with them during the simulation. If you have not assigned students to teams, choose 10 students. Let half be Beach Goers and the rest Beach Reachers.
Assign one person to answer the phone. Take the Beach Goers in a van to a designated spot where they will be picked up during the simulation. Have them call in after about 5 minutes.
When the call comes in, have the Beach Reachers go get them and pretend that they are picking up riders at Beach Reach. Tell them to attempt to discuss the gospel with the passenger they sit next to. Have them use the Hotline Card to share. Make sure to spread the Beach Reachers throughout the van to insure that everyone will have someone to share with.
After a few minutes have them exchange roles.

Secure some volunteers who would be willing to cook pancakes during the training session.
Have tables and chairs set up near the pancakes.
If teams are assigned, divide the team in half. Let half of them be the Beach Goers who will eat the free pancakes in the simulation. The others will be Beach Reachers who sit with them and attempt to share the Satisfaction Model with them while they eat. Have them use the Hotline Card to share. If you have not assigned teams, choose 10 students. Let half be Beach Goers and the rest Beach Reachers.
Make sure that the student acting as the Beach Reacher learns how to approach someone at the table or in the pancake line and initiate a conversation. They need to know how to do this "before" they get to Beach Reach.
After a few minutes have them exchange roles.

As time permits switch the groups so everyone will be able to simulate both the pancake breakfast and the van rides.

HOMEWORK

Ask God to show you what He wants to teach you about Himself, Yourself and His Kingdom as you get ready to go.
Pray now for the lost people that you will meet through the various ministries during Beach Reach.
Pray for final preparations.
Share the Satisfaction Model with several non-Christians before you leave.
